New Art Room

Well here it is.

Our new Art Room….with a little guest area too.

undefined

Happy is an understatement to how we feel about it. All on a low budget and mainly on items pulled elsewhere from the house.

Even the paint was picked out of our workshop (a reject from the mudroom).

As I mentioned, we had outgrown our old, little space in the laundry room. This one should grow and last with us for a while.

I have been drooling over striped rugs for quite some time now. I really wanted to get this one from IKEA but thought twice about toddlers + art + wool rug. Not a good idea. So we found a roll of linoleum at Home Depot for 35 dollars and turned it into our own rug/splat mat.

The table is from our kitchen. The kitchen is getting a makeover and we no longer needed it.

We loved the table but we were not sure of where we would need it in the house.

Honey Do cut down the legs to just the right size for the chairs that I picked up at the Brooklyn Flea.

Most of the money spent in the room was on the twin beds. IKEA twin mattresses + bedding.

The fabric for the windows was pulled out of my fabric stash.  They are a bit short but I don’t mind.

undefinedundefined

We found this desk at yard sale and Honey Do refinished it. This is the girls new writing desk.

Lamp shade is from IKEA.

undefinedundefined

Pallet beds are all the rage now. I have been in love with them ever since I saw them here.

Honey-Do put his own spin on them. Beautiful. I want one for my room now.

undefinedundefined

Another yard sale find, an old Singer 201. We had it rewired and it sews beautifully.

I figured it would be a good place to get some extra sewing in while the girls are busy with projects.

Although I am already thinking I might either add some easels there or possibly a 2nd roll top desk.

undefined

I wanted a place where I could showcase their art. I also pulled in some of the art prints that I have been collecting from this past year.

undefinedundefined

This one is an original by my mama. I have a few more I am planning on framing. I love the personal feeling of the art wall.

undefined

The guest beds also serves as a great reading area.

undefined

She wasn’t too happy that I wouldn’t let her do art. I was trying to photograph the room, she was trying to do what she loves to do. Create.

undefined

These blossoms have already fallen off the tree. It was a beautiful view for a few days at least.

undefined

I love their creativity. She came up with this idea on her own.

A Marching Hat. Too cute for words.

undefined

I pulled up our Stokke chairs from the kitchen (bought used on craigslist).

The girls really were not using them much, we were thinking of selling them but I love them in the room.

They are perfect for 4 cousins to sit together and share in creating.

undefined

This room has already changed our day to day. We have had a bout of bad weather (with the exception of the last couple of days) and we have been forced to spend a ton of time indoors. This room gives us the outlet we need, away from the TV. A happy place to sit, read, create, and play games.

A once unused room being used to it’s full potential now.

Soooo….if you need me, this is where I will be. 🙂

The Little Things

Honey Do asked me what I thought of my post yesterday and I replied, “scatterbrained”. Sorry about that.  That’s what happens when I try to write and force it with chaos ,umm I mean, toddlers running in circles around me.

But I figured at the rate I am posting, I will get them in when I can, even if they come off a bit “out there”.

Today’s post will be no different, nothing too thought out, a bit random.

Here are some of the Little Things I am loving right now.

Freshly picked flowers.

Spontaneous picnics in the backyard on a very warm Spring day.

undefined

Games…toddler style.

undefined

Blooming Trees.

undefined

Pink cowgirl boots mixed in with the everyday.

undefinedundefined

Family time.

Dandelions…..not good for the grass but oh so pretty.

undefinedundefined

Bike rides up and down the street.

undefined

The different personalities of my 2 little ones.

Re-evaluating our home and needs

We have 3 livable bedrooms in our house. Besides our room, we bunked the girls up in 1 room and we used 1 room as a guest bedroom.  There is a very small 4th bedroom but the size of the closet makes it sketchy. Besides that room has been taken over by me and all my crafts.  The rest of the house has been OFFICIALLY taken over by 2 toddlers.

It’s always an evolution…my home. I think that I will probably change it regularly. I get a bit bored and very quickly.

Our guest room (formerly Princess’s room) served an okay purpose. We do get quite a few visitors, mainly my family visiting from California. But we found that they sort of migrated their way all the way to the basement in lieu of the guest area. Mainly because it has a comfy couch, TV, and it’s far away from 2 sleeping toddlers. The guest room was a bit dull, no tv, and too close to the sleeping toddlers. With that said, we decided to permanently move the guest quarters to the basement (murphy bed DIY coming soon). Lately, it had just become more of a dumping ground than anything. We all have one of those….right?

So what did we do with the spare guest room? We turned it into an Art Room of course. Doesn’t every household have a spare art bedroom?  All kidding aside. We had outgrown our little art space in the laundry room and were desperate to find a new home.

And so we did.

Our number one rule? Spend as little money as possible. I think we did a pretty good job with that part. The only hang up? We still had 2 little visitors who needed a place to stay for sleepovers and were not comfortable with throwing them down into the basement. So the majority of our budget was adding a sleeping area in the new art space.

Oh….you want to see the art space? You will have to wait a couple more days. It’s just about done. But here is a sneak peak…..

A table from our fugly kitchen (another makeover in progress) that we were wondering what to do with?

Every art room needs a rug. But a fabric or wool rug with two toddlers making art? Hmm..probably not a great idea.

Solution.

And of course no project would be complete without the hands of honey do and his fabulous carpentry skills.

A little something for those 2 little girls who still come over for sleepovers.

Seriously, I am sooooo excited to show it off!
